Lactic acid bacteria control our gut flora

A well-balanced gut flora with a wide variety of bacteria is the key to a healthy gut. Sometimes the composition of bacteria can be unbalanced, which can make you unwell or cause stomach problems. One solution is to supplement with lactic acid bacteria, the sworn defenders of your stomach and gut.

You have around 100,000 billion bacteria in your gut, which should belong to between 800-1000 different bacterial strains. Sometimes the stomach is exposed to unknown bacteria that can create toxic substances, disturb the gut flora balance, and give you stomach problems. How many of us have been forced to stay in our hotel rooms after coming into contact with some new strain of bacteria on a foreign holiday? The job of the lactic acid bacteria is to counteract these.

Meaning the lactic acid bacteria can help to restore the gut’s normal bacterial flora when your stomach gets out of balance. For example, when you come in contact with unknown bacterial strains, or due to a course antibiotics that kills both the good and bad bacteria.

Why do we have problems with our gut flora?

It’s not just foreign holidays and strong courses of antibiotics that can upset our intestinal flora – our modern lifestyles and diets can also have a negative effect on bacterial flora. Stress, bad sleep, lack of exercise, bad eating habits, and environmental pollutants are just some of the factors that play a part.

Around 50 years ago, we used to get a lot more natural lactic bacteria in our food than we do today. The reason is that it was more common in the food culture of the time, for example pickled foods as well as raw vegetables. Lactic bacteria live in the soil, among other places, which is why raw vegetables are recommended for people who want to improve their gut flora. Raw vegetables also contain a lot of fibre which works as food for the bacteria, which helps them to survive in the gut.

How do I improve the gut flora and increase the number of lactic bacteria?

If your gut flora has been disturbed, or if you just want to keep it in balance at all times, you can add new lactic bacteria to reset the balance and counteract the damaging bacteria. This helps to change the gut flora so it functions better. As mentioned, the lactic acid bacteria always exist in your body naturally, but they can also be replenished through diet or with the help of dietary supplements.

If you want more lactic acid bacteria, you need to eat and drink more fermented foods and drinks such as kombucha, kimchi, or sauerkraut.

Like a lot of other people in the west, you can take lactic acid bacteria and restore your gut flora with the help of probiotics. Our bacteria and fibre supplement Synbiotic15 – a synbiotic supplement, i.e. a mix of probiotics and prebiotics, is the result of a project from 1999 where Professor Stig Bengmark and some of his research colleagues, gathered together 535 different lactic acid bacteria with the goal of finding what you could call ‘the elite’ of anti-inflammatory bacteria.

A supplement for your gut health

Want more energy and less bloating? It might be time to take better care of your gut. To strengthen or restore the balance in your gut flora, it's important you feed your gut with a daily dose of pre- and probiotics. A healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables is usually sufficient. If you want an extra boost or make sure you get a daily dose of good bacteria, you can complement your diet with a supplement.

Why should you take Synbiotic15?

A daily dose of Synbiotic15 helps to boost your immune system, improve your digestion, prevent inflammation, strengthen your gut flora, improve your skin and take care of simple stomach problems. It's a powdered mix of 4 patented lactic acid bacteria and 4 grams of prebiotic fibres, which act as food for the good bacteria.
